BTS Logistics recently had the opportunity to visit the container vessel AL MURAYKH, following an invitation from HPL. The visit provided a detailed and insightful perspective on the operational and technical side of modern shipping.
Upon arrival, the team was welcomed by the ship’s German captain, who guided them through key areas of the vessel, including the engine rooms, aft deck, and the bridge. Throughout the tour, extensive explanations were given on the ship’s technical systems and operational processes.
One notable detail highlighted during the visit was the vessel’s container capacity structure. Below deck, up to eleven containers can be stacked, with an additional eleven containers stacked above deck. This configuration demonstrates the scale and efficiency required in today’s container shipping industry.
From the bridge, the team had a clear view of the APMT 2 terminal, where operations are largely automated. The terminal utilizes electrically powered lorries for container transport, while cranes are operated remotely from office locations using advanced camera systems. The high level of automation significantly reduces the need for on-site personnel, while maintaining precision and operational control.
The visit offered valuable insight into both shipboard operations and terminal-side innovations. Experiencing these processes firsthand provided a deeper understanding of the technological advancements shaping the logistics and maritime sectors.
This visit underscores the ongoing evolution of global logistics, where efficiency, automation, and innovation continue to redefine industry standards.
